It seems that in general like a lot of people on the list seem
reluctant to consult a CPA. Probably believing that it is too costly,
or thinking that they don't know how to find a CPA that they trust. I
have to say that having done things myself for a few years, and then
having used a CPA for a number of years - I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY
recommend finding a CPA and consulting with them on tax issues.

It does cost money, but it will often save you more. Not just from
additional deductions, but also from avoiding penalties. Making your
own assumptions and being wrong can get very expensive - WAY more
expensive than CPA costs. If you know anyone who's a small business
owner, ask them who they use. Ask friends, ask family. Try to find
someone you can build a relationship with.

You can also go to H&R block or some "tax prep" company, but I have
found that having a relationship with an individual pays off in big
ways.

Just thought I would toss that out there.

YMMV.
