Spalding is great stuff, I feel totally chagrined that I had managed
to not know of her until she was nominated which is odd since she's
from Portland and I do try to stay on top of these things. It was a
pleasant surprise.

I've been grooving on the new Decemberists album. The album has been
described as "the best REM album in years" and "a Decemberists album
for people who have always wanted to like them but just haven't been
able to" and both descriptions are apt. Peter Buck helped produce the
album and played on it some (which helps the REM sound to be sure) and
Gillian Welch sings back up on a number of tracks. It is much more
accessible than a lot of their earlier work and a really solid album
through and through.

My other new find, yesterday, is Lissie. Powerful voice, solid guitar
work and she knows how to rock a bottle of tequila.
