The unions are dead, don't lament them. They started as a way for people to protect themselves; they have become just another private power structure in our society, intent on maximizing gains for their own members at any cost. They suck just as much as Wall Street sucks, just as much as big corporate CEOs who are destroying the middle class suck.
Our system of government is broken but fixable. We need to limit the power of corporations over our lives by limiting their legal rights through a Constitutional amendment. We also need a lot more elected people in Washington. In fact, why does Congress even have to convene physically? It's an ancient notion that is unnecessary, even counter-productive, in a vast country with high-speed communications. Our Congress people should live and work in their districts. No need to jet off to DC to be wined and dined by lobbyists and special interest groups. Why not stay in the district and listen to the people they should listen to - their constituents?
