I don't know about the valuation, but it's definitely something they need if they do indeed want to compete in that market.
I do know that there's an entire segment of business people that rely on Skype to do business, and pay for the privilege... so they have a good customer base that is not going away because there is not other tool on the market now that gives them the options Skype does.
