"it's cheaper to pay someone unemployment than keep them in jail. much
cheaper. as long as they are not letting violent felons out."

Isn't that amazing. The cost of imprisoning someone is staggering.

"No one released from prison will be eligible for unemployment. "

Ah. But they may be willing to work for cheaper than someone else, leading
to another person's unemployment. It seems ex-cons might have to sacrifice
salary for employ-ability.

"As for the welfare problem, if the families of the prisoners are on
welfare, the re-entry of the male parent into the household will cause
reduction of benefits if he is working. "

Potentially meaning less money to feed more people. And if he isn't
working, then the same amount of money to feed more people.

Finally, if you are an ex-con and you can't get a job or welfare, where does
that leave you in terms of making a living?

"70% of the cost of the California prison system goes to the salaries and
benefits to employees. "

Seems to be a running theme with many government programs.
