Now you do! I drive to Wisconsin to lease cars. Ken Vance's Auto
World in Eau Claire.

In truth, you can't avoid paying your state's sales tax since when you
pay the registration fees you have to pay the fees of the state in
which you're registering the car. If I could do that, I definitely
would. (technically I could register it in WI and then drive it in MN
but that's risky).

So why do I do it? Because ole Ken is willing to cut me a super good
deal - enough to make it worth a 1.5 hour drive.

In August I'm flying to Munich to pick up a car and then drop it off
for shipment to Maryland. Then I'm either going to drive it back from
there or have it shipped (which is like $600). It's WAY cheaper.

We also routinely - based on hotel promotions - check into hotel rooms
in town, mess up the bed, take the paper and soaps and shampoos, and
then leave. We do this because of the points arbitrage: we can score
an internet special for, say, $60/night and if it's done during the
right promo it gets up a $1500/night room in Europe or Asia.

And that's just the tip of iceberg ;
