As a legal resident, I can stay as long as I want. I pay taxes like most other people, and have all the same benefits and obligations, except for a few things. The issue is what I would give up. That is difficult to deal with. All in all what you'd find is that there are not many differences. People are a bit different, you'd have to get used to the bilingualism and the diversity.
