A friend of mine is aiming to do exactly that in the Whiteshell area in
Manitoba. He has the cabin on the lake, fully winterized, with a hot tub and
sauna, satellite tv and internet. It has the equivalent of FIOS to the cabin,
so its possible to work remotely. BTW the fishing is great there. And no I'm
not telling you where it is.

But yes its a great place to stay in the summer. The winter however not so
great. It can get bitterly cold in the winter (-40 in February in not unusual),
and very isolated. One good snowfall and it may be weeks before the road is
plowed. So you have to have no problem with going to the store on a snowmobile.

Actually you can do the same along the border between Minnesota and Ontario,
and still stay in the US.
