Vinyl windows are not as nice looking, but they have the advantage of being less subject to the ravages of time and the elements than wood windows. There is also the philosophical argument about whether we should build houses using renewable, eco-friendly materials (e.g. wood), or whether we should use high-tech products like vinyl that suck for the environment but are much longer lasting and maintenance free than something like wood.
