Couple of things on this -
1. The fraud case was a federal one, not state. I searched on federal
sentencing guidelines and, quite honestly, they appear both complex and tame
compared to some states. I found
http://www.ussc.gov/Guidelines/2010_guidelines/index.cfm and wound my way
through the strange grids. From what I can see, he was found guilty of
either level 24 or 25 offense. As far as criminal history, I'm guessing he's
at a 1. Guidelines put that at a sentence between 51 and 71 months.
Prosecutors asked for 72.

2. The armed robbery case is a state one, not federal. Each state has its
own sentencing guidelines. In this case the crime was committed in
Louisiana. First Degree Robery is a level 2, category II offense. According
to the grid (found way the hell down at
http://www.doa.la.gov/osr/lac/22v01/22v01.pdf) the sentencing range is
between 36 months (min. for first time offenders) all the way up to 240
months for "hardened criminals". After doing some searching, I found a
couple of other points to be considered:
* References to the fact that the convicted had a criminal record going back
to 1988 (post #8 at http://apolyton.net/showthread.php/183403-Fake-or-not)
* The original post includes an number of links, find it at
http://wesawthat.blogspot.com/2009/01/shreveport-man-gets-15-years-for.html
* One of the links on that page points to the fact that the Shreveport
police gave a different name entirely
http://www.shreveportla.gov/dept/Police/2007/052507.bank%20robber%20turns%20himself%20in.htm

So, looking at dollar amounts isn't the only thing one can do in this case.
I won't defend the sentencing structure, only point it out.
