My understanding was that Iraq wanted to have an agreement signed by them
and the US stating that US forces stay there indefinately. From my
experience, this really translates to "as long as there are US trooops in
Iraq, US money flows into the pockets of the higher ranking buearucrats".
Since we really have no vested interest in Iraq other than oil, there is
really no reason for us to be there. Hell, same thing for Afghanistan which
has very few natural resources (oil and precious minerals in the North, a
shit ton of pomegranets in the south), all we really do here is build bases
to stay alive. I have been here for six months now and I really feel that I
have not accomplished anything more than turn the village I am responsible
for into a nice little welfare village. Anyway, I am glad we are pulling out
of Iraq and I hope that the same thing happens in the 'Stan in 2014. I just
hope that this does not translate to votes for Obama next year that would
keep him in office.
