This move has been telegraphed by Adobe for awhile. Number of times the
word Flash came up in Day One Keynote at MAX? Zero. It was all about
Phone Gap and HTML5.

They also announced at max that they were "doubling down" on Flash as a
gaming platform, but I think that's really just a last ditch effort to
reposition it. In all reality, HTML5 has won this battle, which is
interesting since it won't be able to live up to it's promise for awhile
still.

This also makes sense that it's happening in mobile first. I think that
mobile browsers have the potential to move forward faster than desktop
computing since mobile devices are generally replaced once every 24 months
or so. Think of how many people you know who have 4 or 5 year old
computers. Moms, dads, workplaces... Still using IE6? Maybe. Netscape?
 Maybe.

Now how old are the phones that belong to those same people? Not 4 or 5
years old. Replace the device and you replace the entire OS and browser on
the device too. I think we will see much faster adoption of HTML5 on
devices than desktops.
