One thing to consider is that it took over 5 years to negotiate a withdrawal from Vietnam. And the North Vietnamese were a lot more centralized than the Taliban. Also given that there was a very large meeting by religious militants on uniting against the current Pakistanti government in Waziristan over the last few days, its going to be very hard to see how this goes.
