I found out some more interesting information about the coup in Mali. The rebellion in the north had been quiet for some time. When Europe and the US decided to take over Libya, the US trained the rebels and used them as insurgents in Libya. When the war was over, the rebels returned home, apparently in a fighting mood. Nice.
Also found out that Mali is the third largest producer of gold in Africa.
