I much prefer British journalism to our own. Which is funny considering my opinion on their government, but I digress. This seems like a better story for the most part.
I have big problems with the IAVW. They have major reliability and verification problems. Several times members of theirs have been found to have never even served, some even being charged under the Stolen Valor Act. I have a friend that I served with (The Sniper/Vets for Freedom) that went to Winter Soldier to report (blogger). Initially the anti-war security kept him out, even though he was invited and given press credentials. Even after he got that squared away they kept a circle of people around him. Finally he was unable to verify deployment locations and dates on several of the key speakers, usually those with the most outrageous claims of war crimes and atrocities. I have no doubt that there were at least a few valor stealing shit bags in that crowd in Chicago. It's their MO. I don't know if anyone here reads Vice magazine. I really liked their edgy style of reporting on stories that much of the main stream media were missing. That is until they wrote a report from a "soldier in the 82nd Airborne" about his short tour in 2004 in support of the election in Afghanistan. He made note of all kinds of atrocities and garbage, the only problem being that I was there, and they didn't happen. I wrote them multiple times both on their contact form and by snail mail and they never answered me, deleted my comments from their site, and kept the story up as written. Damn shame too because they write about some cool stuff. I end up having to school friends on social media and forums and stuff all the time for using f'd up sources. I'm by no means perfect but I take almost nothing at face value, and try to drill down to find the original source.
