never had to do that personally. couple of times had to help the boss document a person's attitude and performance so boss had "doc" to back up the firing. Several times wished I was in a position to fire someone who was the "weak link" and making things harder for the rest of us. If someone was just marginally competent, or slow in their work, but trying, I would be reluctant to get rid of them. Would try to help them improve.
