"I know this is the popular thing to say these days but...."

I am not sure it's popular. I know people who don't watch "news", but it's
not an intentional action to ignore certain channels. It's just a
lifestyle. I know people who will only watch Fox. I know people who will
only watch CNN. Understandably, I don't know anyone who watches MSNBC, but
then who would ever admit to that? I don't know many people at all who
intentionally avoid channels.

"if you ignore the stupid shows set up to just scream, then they are just
news organizations...some do a better job than others, but why would every
single one of them be so poor at reporting the news that you'd feel obligated
to refuse to watch them????"

You are making a hidden assumption. You are assuming that they are
actually news organizations. They call themselves news organizations, but
they are not. They are entertainment organizations. They suicide on Fox
is a classic example. A news organization would have said there is a chase
going on, shown a little footage, and then said "We'll be back to the story
when there is more to tell." Instead, Fox hooked in for cheap production
and ratings.

When these organizations do try to do news, the results can't be trusted.

MSNBC is part of the DNC.
The president of ABC news has a sister who is a special Advisor to
President Obama.
NPR and PBS have are compromised (how many adds do you hear for big pharma
on these channels?). There will never be any hard hitting journalism there.
CBS - See the book "Bias" by Bernard Goldberg
Jeffery Immelt is in Obama's jock strap so NBC is out.
Fox - I won't even try to bash Fox. I'll let everyone else take care of
that.
