Freedom's a bitch, ain't it? We lag in all sorts of areas because Americans can afford to be lazy dipshits...and still lead a decent life. We could force people to be all kinds of things...but then we'd cease to be America.
So...define "success"? Ok, here you go: America has created the greatest prosperity and freedom for the greatest number of people in the history of the world, and done so without compromising it's core values and principles. Americans aren't the smartest or hardest working or most diligent population in the world, we think stupid things and elect questionable people, but the country excels in SPITE of this.
