"I find this amusing considering how badly I was bashed on this list a few years back when I suggested that since the military was not fighting an air war perhaps they could cut back on buying planes."
Part of the problem of our country today is the unwillingness of ideologues to accept cuts for their side. There's enough fat in every program to make some cuts. Unfortunately, cuts mean less money for power brokers, so the ruling class will not support cuts for their patrons. At some point, the wheels have to come off. There is a stock market that is artificially pumped up by continual printing of money, an unemployment rate that is much higher than the official rate, an inflation that is higher than the official rate, financial chaos in Europe, and imperial actions by the governments that can do it. When the wheels come off, will the people stay indoors and meekly accept it or stand up fix the problem. >From Ice-T's 1989 album: The Iceberg SHUT UP, BE HAPPY LYRICS - ICE-T We interrupt this program with a special bulletin: America is now under marshal law. All constitutional rights have been suspended. Stay in your homes. Do not attempt to contact loved ones, insurance agents, or attorney's. Shut up. Do not attempt to think or depression may occur. Stay in your homes. Curfew is at 7 PM sharp after work. Anyone caught outside of gates of their subdivision sector after curfew, will be shot. Remain calm, do not panic. Your neighborhood watch officer will be by to collect urine samples in the morning. Anyone caught interfering with the collection of urine samples, will be shot. Stay in your homes. Remain calm. The number one enemy of progress is question. National security is more important than individual will. All sports broadcasts will proceed as normal. No more than two people may gather anywhere without permission. Use only the drugs prescribed by your boss or supervisor. Shut up. Be happy. Obey all orders without question. The comfort you demanded is now mandatory. Be happy. At last everything is done for you.
