problem is that the Silmarillion is a completely different narrative, more like the Bible. Now some of the sections in there would kick butt, like the story of Hurin, or Turin Turmbar, or even better the Lay of Beren and LĂșthien, that would make an amazing movie. Or best yet the Fall of Gondolin, but that would be such a depressing movie.
