I'm on the board of several non-profits.  Long delays in 501c
approvals are not uncommon regardless of the purpose of the group. The
last one we did for a museum took over a year.  I'm all for more
oversight for non-profits with political leanings regardless of their
ideology.  For instance, I don't think churches get nearly enough
scrutiny for their tax exemptions.
