This is a fascinating piece, albeit slightly dated (from 2011). It posits
that the fairly neutral (and somewhat populist) role of the military in
Egypt is linked to the military's involvement in the private economy
(estimated between 5 and 40%) and that, in turn, being linked to decisions
made after the peace between Egypte and Israel.
