You should see the food that crosses the border from Israel to Egypt daily, and the water pipelines. The Egyptian and Israeli militias are almost reliant on one another at a certain level.
Also like the article said almost everyone works for the military or government in some way. Sharm el sheik is one of the tourist towns its taking about. They don't want any trouble there or they'll lose all that European and Russian hard currency. Egypt was crazy back in 00-01 when I was there, I can't imagine what is like now.
