Actually...yes it is true.  Leif Ericsson and his band from Greenland landed
in North America 500 years before Columbus.  We have settlements in
Newfoundland (a Norse name BTW) and evidence that they ranged as far south
as South Carolina.

Columbus only found a tiny island in the Caribbean and he thought he was off
of the coast of China.
