The main source for the comic was Zinn's book "A People's History of the United States", which I happen to have here on the shelf. Got it... so this is all covered in the first chapter, pages 1-22. Zinn's primary sources are Columbus's ships logs, letters he wrote to King Ferdinand, and books written by Bartolome de las Casas (History of the Indies) who took part in events there years later and followed in Columbus's legacy. Columbus himself says he wasted no time in using force to subdue the population: "As soon as I arrived in the Indies, in the first island which I found, I took some of the natives by force, in order that they might learn and might give me information of whatever there is in these parts." (letter to King Ferdinand) This use of force continued not only with Columbus but those who arrived after him. There are lots of primary sources on this stuff. Columbus himself returned on the second voyage with lots more ships and men with two goals in mind: gold and slaves. He tells the King that he can bring back as much gold as as many slaves as they desire. It's right in his own letters. But no... it's all BS just made up... -Justin ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:367741 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/unsubscribe.cfm
