Yes, he was approved prior to Jeffords.

All in all, though, there's a big difference between now and when Clinton tried to 
appoint someone to the AG position.
Two nominees were rejected because they hired illegal nannies.  I doubt Ashcroft would 
stand up to any kind of scrutiny
like that (the guy's a loony).
