I'm working on a generic cover letter. I've been putting out applications
and looking for work. I think I'm finally ready, and there are actually a
few local opportunities.
This is what I have so far, and actually submitted to a position already.

To whom it may concern,
My name is Timothy Heald. I am seeking a position that allows me to
transition my experiences and skills gained in the military and government
service so that I may return to the private market after a reasonably long
hiatus.
I am proven and skilled in all aspects of Information Technology,
primarily focused on software, security and social media. Although I have
not had formal employment in several years I have maintained my skillset
through continuing personal development, blogging, and general community
involvement.
I know that given the chance the abilities I bring to the table can
only increase the productivity, quality and teamwork of any group to which
I am assigned.
