I think that the mistake that people often make in these sorts of discussions is attempting to explain the theory to someone who doesn't WANT to believe it. The real point is that there are several proposed hypothesis on how life came to be on this planet. Some are scientific and some are mythology. Of all of these, currently there is one hypothesis (evolution) which when challenged stands out several orders of magnitude above the others in validity. This doesn't mean it's a complete or perfect explanation, but that does not diminish it's standing as the single most validated hypothesis. By far. By light years. Also, generally speaking, scientists will look at evidence contrary to their theory and get excited. They will formulate tests to further explore the evidence and will share it and be interested in getting to the bottom of the truth. This process is what has led to the theory of evolution. Contrast that to mythologies and superstitions, and though there is sometimes an interest in discovering the truth, there is also a deep fear that the truth will invalidate long held beliefs. There is secrecy and denial. Fanatic believers of mythologies will attack the messenger instead of working to validate or invalidate the message. There really is very little that will sway someone indoctrinated into the belief system of a given mythology. Especially if they are still embedded in the reinforcement worshiping mechanisms developed centuries ago to keep those beliefs in line. -Cameron ... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Order the Adobe Coldfusion Anthology now! http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Coldfusion-Anthology/dp/1430272155/?tag=houseoffusion Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:369147 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/unsubscribe.cfm
