I don't think we have ever had a free market. It has always been dominated by big business or the rich. Before that, it was controlled by royalty. Just in America's timespan, it was controlled bny the British corporations (like the Tea Companies, Tobacco Companies, and the incorporated Colonial companies), then after that, the Robber Barons, then back to big corporations...
