Dang, don't you think sometimes it would be easier to be a sheep, Tim?
Thinking for yourself and standing up for unpopular opinions is damn hard
work at times.  That's why I tend to really respect most of the folks on
this list, even when we vehemently disagree on a subject. They are
considered opinions and come through a lot of life experience and thought.

And even when we disagree on a subject, we'll find common ground on another
subject. And that's where Congress has gone so wrong...they can't let
themselves find coalitions of people they agree with on a given subject,
where they can usefully debate and engage, even though they may disagree on
other matters. Sometimes I think that the people in Congress aren't as much
of a problem as the fact that they always have a (D) or an (R) after their
name. Maybe if we just did away with the parties we'd be able to get more
functional engagement.
