Hatton, you're correct. Huntington is the last stop on the Yellow line and
Franconia/Springfield is the last stop on the Blue Line. They both are in
Fairfax County.

It sounds like you've got a good location. King St. is the "strip" in Old
Town Alexandria (and by that I mean where the restaurants and bars are) you
can find everything from fast food to five star dining. Right across the
river from Alexandria is National Harbor which has alot of
nightlife/restaurants/shops etc you can either cross the river by car (495
over the Woodrow Wilson Bridge) or by water taxi.

As far as Metro goes, Avoid rush hour like the plague the trains are
crowded and finding a seat is next to impossible. If you're intenerary
includes Arlington Cemetary and/or the Pentagon Memorial take the Blue
Line, it's the long way to the Smithsonian and the National Mall The only
disadvantage to non rush service is that the trains run on a much longer
schedule.

This site will help immensely (it's also written in ColdFusion)

Also note that the Pentagon Reservation is a high security area, things can
close up at a moments notice. There is no photography allowed outside of
the Pentagon Memorial, they are very strict about this. There are pentagon
tours available but you have to book in advance .

In short while at the Pentagon, do exactly what they nice men with the
machine guns tell you to do.

More notes: The dinosaur exhibit at the Natural History Museum is closed
until 2017, as they are redoing the entire thing, there are occasional
small exhibits out, but the collection as a whole is being revamped,
cleaned etc.

The Udvar - Hazy Center (the Air and Space Museum Annex) is about 25 Miles
or so due west of DC at Dulles International Airport, and parking is $15
per car.

Things start to ramp up in mid March that's when the tour busses start
showing up en masse and the museums start to get crowded.

If you're also looking for local music and nightlife I can suggest a few
places
