I know one person who's using the archives for almost all of her reading. The only time she goes to the email is when she wants to reply. I have the archives set to auto-post. As soon as a message is sent to the lists, it shows in the archives. I'm working on getting the login and post from archives working along with the search. Piece by piece. :)
