I think the producer/director/whoever has different concerns depending on the outlet.
I would think that most people don't want to commit into a theatre for 2.5+ hours. I often suffer through either a painful bladder or a cottony mouth for the last hour at a theatre. EVERYONE looks at you when you get up during the flick, lol, I can FEEL their eyes. I SO hate it. And the cokes just get bigger and bigger, and now they have free refills, the bastards are just taunting me now. Heh. At home, I can watch a bit at a time, pause when I want, etc. I'd be much more willing to sit through a longer story. I wonder if the theaters have a "preferred" or forced limit on length for profit margins/crowd turnover?
