I'd go ahead and scratch sony off your list, the last few components I've
bought from them have fritzed out just after a year of owning them (right
after the warranty expires - it's like they put timers in them to clonk
out.) Sony is also a fan of using proprietary components, so in 5 years
you'll have to not only hunt down suppliers if you want to replace or
upgrade anything, but you'll be paying top $$$ as well.

Not to mention you'd be contributing to their extensive DRM (digital rights
management) research which is one of those "all we're trying to do is
control your information" things. But of course I may be over paranoid on
this last point.

I'd spend less on a cheaper name - toshiba, acer, etc. They're all
manufactured in the same factories anyway.
