Pardon the soapbox, but read another Thai story recently 
that truly saddened me.

Couple of magazine journalists went to Thailand to do an 
expose on the teenage girls sent to the cities and 
resorts, sold into sex slavery.

When they found out from a "madam" how little in US$ is 
would cost to "buy out" a girl's contract, they did so 
for one girl, and returned her to her home village 
to "freedom".

Imagine their reaction when they discovered that her 
MOTHER had sent her to the madam, and was getting a 
percentage of her earnings, which helped support the 
family.
