Lonnie, The Mujahadin (spelling?) was not a single group. While the Taliban was formed shortly after the Soviet retreat from Afghanistan, they did receive funding from the CIA. Hekmatyar Khan, who is another fundimentalist in the southern part of the country did receive a lot of CIA funding. Bin Laden also received funding from the US government when he was part of the Mujahadin. All of this is on record.
As for the US being relatively new to funding different groups etc which it later regretted doing, this nation has done such such since before its founding. Not so new to the effort in other words. larry -- Larry C.
