A political site making fun of Gray Davis (CA gov) won a lawsuit by eBay trying to
force them down.

So they don't always win.

But I think if they find out about it, they need to at least threaten to sue, or else
they have not "protected" their trademarks or copyrights.

Note, however, that I most certainly am not a lawyer.

On the other hand, I once did a really good Jeopardy knockoff for an internal bank
training seminar, and we did get it vetted through the bank's lawyers before we
created it.

Pretty sure internal uses are ok. We've done a lot of marketing materials
for internal purposes that use copyrighted songs, and our higher ups aren't
the type to let that go unless it was checked out for legality ...

Of course, nothing is for sure ... :)

Subject: Weird question...

Its a little late to ask this question:

for a united way fundraiser I created an online auction to auction off
managers as slaves for a day. I modeled it after ebay, how it worked and
how it looked and called it ANMCbay (anmc is the name of the hospital)

There was a great deal of worry that calling it anmcbay was illegal. I
reassured them that it wasnt' anything to worry about since it was internal.
But of course I wasnt' really sure, I was just bluffing since I put alot of
work into it.

Could we have gotten into alot of trouble for anmcbay?
