And is the world a better place for it? Sure it's a nice song and all, but do we need it? Yes, there is a need for "Art" in general. Yes, the government should encourage the arts - but who is to say that we need copyright limitations in order to produce art? Couldn't Woody Guthrie have written his own tune? Pretend for a moment that you are the original author and you do not want to share. How would you feel about someone having commercial success using music/writing/code/etc that you designed - even if it is 50 years later. Ok, maybe you wouldn't be that stingy. My point is - why should I force you to share? It's not a question of health for sure. It's not like someone's life was saved because of "This Land is Your Land." Please note that I'm not trying to say we shouldn't share.
