The palestinians and jews pretty much DID live in peace during the 80's until the intifada. Then there was an accident in which an israeli army truck ran over some palestinians, certainly a terrible sad thing. For some reason Palestinians assumed this was not an accident and started rioting. Things went downhill from there.
