Kevin, Actually during the Revolutionary war France provided an army of around 40,000 troops to assist the Continental Army in Virginia. They were largely responsible for the surrender of Cornwallis' Army. And this was only about 15 years after the Americans colonists were very instrumental in kicking the French out of North America.
