Hmmm, let's see... Beaujolais, Bordeaux, Chardonnay, Champagne, Cognac, Rocquefort, french fries :-), Van Gogh (worked in France), Cezanne, Rodin, Gaugin to name a few reasons....
Or my personal favourite... as Charles de Gaulle said: "Any country with three hundred cheeses is ungovernable..." It's true that Parisiens can be very annoying, and Paris big, expensive and dirty, but in fact it is a very beautiful city... and well worth the annoyances. And it is also true as Craig said that people can be very friendly elsewhere. The French don't really hate the Americans... they have a love-hate relationship with American culture like much of the rest of the world.... they hate the fast-food ethos of McDonalds and bless their little pointed heads for it, but they consume American movies and style in droves....And I suspect the love-hate thing holds true for American attitudes towards the French!
