I'm sorry you think I'm being "whiney". I strongly believe in the pursuit of non-violent solutions to problems, and I communicated my feelings to my elected officials, most of whom represented my feelings quite well. I also work for the government in a capacity that assists in helping families, farmers and communities.
I did not say that I intended to move to France. If you look, I very carefully worded my statement to say, "it has put me into a mind to wonder where else I might live." This is a pragmatic intellectual exercise. I have long thought that the south of France has been someplace I would like to see, but I have heard many derogatory comments about France and I didn't know the motivations for these attitudes, thus the original question. Please note that in my original question I did not make it a political reaction to Iraq. It was a straightforward question to find an answer to this one curiosity. When a person asked why the interest, I answered succintly and honestly, but my intent was never to "whine" or to start a patriotic flame fest. You cannot find a more "American" person than me. I am a product of the U.S. culture through and through. To lift from another discussion, when a form asks for my ethnic or racial background, I honestly put down "American". (Just ask Deanna on this list as I caused a bit of a rucous about it on my forms at work.) I may not fit your definition of a patriot, but I am no less of an American. I will choose not to answer your other questions about Iraq and Afghanistan. What is done is done. I will however say that I am quite pleased that Jimmy Carter has won the nobel peace prize for "decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development."
