I started programming by scripting. I was an AOL script kiddie on a Mac and did OneCLick scripting. And it was so fun being able to do automated stuff and telling it to do almost anything I want! Plus it was a 66mhz or so Mac and there wasn't much else I could do.
And that opened the door for me to look at other things and get into hardcore programming. In high school we used Ti-82 calculators and were allowed to use them on tests and I wrote a prog that calculated binomials, and not only that, but it would display the actual steps involved! Yeah yeah I cheated :) You needed to show your work, ya know. So let this kid know all the cool stuff he can do with programming and I am sure he'll jump at it. -----Original Message----- From: Ben Doom [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, October 16, 2002 1:00 PM To: CF-Community Subject: RE: Learning Programming I started programming because I thought computers were neat -- they did whatever I told them to, as long as I knew how to tell them. I got into it more deeply when I discovered that it could do my math homework. I hated repetitious adding, subtracting, etc. when I already knew how to do it, but just didn't want to. <laugh type="evil genius"> I started programming to foil the plans of my evil math teacher! --Ben Doom Programmer & General Lackey Moonbow Software : -----Original Message----- : From: Raymond Camden [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] : Sent: Wednesday, October 16, 2002 11:26 AM : To: CF-Community : Subject: RE: Learning Programming : : : It's funny - I started my 'career' by trying to cheat at games.
