I don't think that is a problem that is specific to *that* community.

Derivative work is pretty much a GPL problem due to the 'viral' nature 
of the GPL. It is much less of an issue with other licenses.

You should, it is much easier as the GPL :)

That pretty much sums it up. The only important thing you left out is 
that they should make sure the source is easily obtainable if the 
distribution is in binary format and in that case the license has to be 
in a separate document.

I don't know. I don't care. It is not like I release *all* my work under 
an open source license.
