I think it is unique to Manitoba (pls confirm), but I think the tradition is
older than Manitoba. The wedding social is a pre-wedding party to celebrate
the pending nuptuals. It is generally more open and includes a broader
spectrum of people that might not be invited to the more exclusive wedding
ceremony and celebration.

Typical social notes:
$10 ticket per person
Snack at Midnight
Prizes (Silent Auction)
=======================

If I could live vicariously through you - I would have a door prize for a
cab at midnight taking you to a weekender for two in Las Vegas...

The last "suitcase social" I went to (about 10-12 years ago) - we didn't win
the draw, but by some fluke I as carrying around $500 in cash (someone paid
me back some money that night) so we ended up buying the weekend trip for
two, an all expenses paid trip to Shreveport, in an ad hoc auction by the
winners for approx $450. I couldn't go, but I sent a buddy of mine down to
Louisiana with a 20 yr old hottie. :(

Eric,

Glad to help.

BTW perhaps you could explain to Nick how a Winnipeg type wedding social
works, and why he should have one, especially for us CF developers.
