All automobiles are bad for the environment.  What you are bitching about is what 
level of bad is acceptable.  Its like saying steal is okay as long as its not more 
than 100 bucks.  As I said in the last SUV bashing thread.  Take every car's pollution 
ratio multiply it by how many miles they drive and put a tax on that.  This way you 
would get people to use public transportation and car pooling....  Let alone the help 
clear the traffic problems.

My point was you can't generalize and say SUV people are bad or wasteful or anything 
else.  There are too many other variables.

Typically someone who commutes from Centerville in Fairfax county to 
Washington DC  dives about 25 miles one way. That works out to be 
quite the distance. Given that he is driving an SUV which does not 
have the same environmental controls as a passenger car, he 
proportionately pollutes more and wastes far more gas than someone 
who drives a compact or mid-size car, or someone who carpools, or 
takes multiple people with him.
