The scariest approved patent I remember was (IIRC) Compton's patent on muliti-media in
about 1994, which was a combination of any two or more of the following on a computer
screen or crt monitor

Graphics
Text
Voice and/or Music
Video

So basically all tv and computing since we move off of green screens.

It was overturned after a few atttempts by them for royalties made everyone scream,

Well I don't see this as effecting much. Remember when IBM (I think) wanted
to patent the hyperlink?

How the heck do the do it? I've have an online discussion forum that dates
back to 1997. Maybe I should challenge the patent and sue Amazon? Never
again will I purchase from Amazon!

Don't you have to prove you invented something before you can patent it? ...
I'm patenting the Internet! :-)
