Nah if you get rid of the electoral college all the people who live in rural states will cry that their vote is not being counted anymore and they don't mean anything to politics and the big city folk run everything.

Admittedly I try not to bring up politics as much as possible, but several friends of mine are rabidly adamant that Bush did, indeed win the popular election. Personally I would like to see the electoral college eliminated... Not specifically because of the 2000 election but rather that it's really not needed any longer (and hasn't been for the past 4 or 6 elections). My hope for the 2000 election was that whomever won would take to heart the fact that American people were (and are) split and move to a more moderate stance. Sadly that hasn't been the case. That's not saying Gore would have done any better (or worse). We'll never know so there's no use crying over it. All I can do is gauge the duly elected president I have before me - and personally I haven't liked him.
