I'm speechless to find out that kind of thing is going on, and didn't mean
to offend anyone if I was dissing their machines. If people are toting these
things around to conventions so they can to show them off, good for them!

(I would personally rather carry a laptop, but that's just me.)

This debate has really made me want to check out one of these machines for
myself. My cousin Charlie bought an Alienware custom P4 3Ghz about a month
ago for $4500 and thinks it is the fastest, most hardcore machine there is.
He will be at my apartment tonight, and I am going to try to talk him into
bringing his investment over (since now I can tell him everyone is doing
it).

I will put it up against the AMD 2200+ with the 1.5 GB RAM and the NVIDIA
4600 I use for development to see how they compare. My box cost about $1500
to build (including the $25 case), and it is an excellent machine that will
give this AW P4 3.0 Mhz box a run for its money. I will post my findings
afterwards, and let everyone know based on my firsthand experience if the
$3000 price difference was worth it, or if you really are just being Blinged
on performance.

Not only is the computer as a status symbol possible, it is already a fact
in some circles. Seriously you should look in to LAN parties and hack/tech
conventions.
