Let me put on my long time, hard core occultist hat here.
If it is indeed a spirit caught in a jar (it's been known to happen) then the
question is why and if it is right to release it or keep it captured. That all
depends on if its a spirit with a 'personality' or not. If its just plain
spiritual energy of some sort then there's not really a problem. The description
of the other black thing still does not say if it has a personality behind its
actions. I'm surprised that the seller didn't go to a priest or someone else
versed in these matters to deal with it.
As for putting a person up for sale on ebay, I'm sure its been known to happen.
The D/S or S&M crowd would probably do it.
